Colletta di Castelbianco Televillage
Savona, Liguria, Italy, 1994- Giancarlo De Carlo, Valerio Saggini & Stefania Belloni, Teleura. This is a rehabilitation project for a now deserted but otherwise perfectly preserved hilltown in Liguria which will be made habitable again. The inhabitants will not be the same, in the sense that they will not carry on the same activities or the same way of life as those who lived there in ancient times, because the reasons why the village was abandoned have certainly not vanished. The new residents will not be tourists either, at least not in the sense commonly given to the term. The aim is rather to reuse the village, to restore it to a new and sustainable community life while maintaining intact those features which make it an ideal place for those who, oppressed by the frenetic beat of contemporary life, seek a refuge in which to live at a slower pace without becoming isolated. All the precious features of urban tradition, therefore, will be combined with the advantages of innovation. Such innovation will be achieved mainly by means of new communication technologies: a sort of ultra-modern cybernetic nerve system will be grafted onto the ancient fabric of the village. The most advanced telecommunication infrastructures will be provided to allow future residents to be connected with the world in real time, utilizing the services offered by the Internet, the World Wide Web and other forthcoming worldwide networks. Work, education, culture, and leisure will be carried by the networks, injecting new life and economic activity into an old infrastructure. [Miguel Ruano, Ecourbanismo.
